Caption: Palladino levitating table. Man touching ('controlling') a table being levitated during a seance session with the celebrated Italian spiritualist and physical medium Eusapia Palladino (1854-1918). Palladino claimed powers such as levitating tables and communicating with the dead. She gave displays in Poland, England, France, Germany, Italy and the USA. On numerous occasions, she was found to be using trickery and deceptions to achieve her displays. Despite this, her displays convinced many of her supernatural powers. This session was photographed by French psychic researcher Jules Courtier, who investigated seances at the Institute of General Psychology in Paris, France. Photographed in 1907 or 1908.
