Caption: Green frog tadpole. This tadpole of the green frog (rana clamitans) is at the four legged stage and is very similar in appearance to the adult frog, except for the remains of the tail. The front legs have broken through the operculum (the flap covering the gills) and the tail will eventually be absorbed by phagocytic cells in the blood.
