Caption: Boris Shcherbina (1919-1990), Deputy Chairman of the Soviet Council of Ministers. Shcherbina was appointed to this role in 1984, holding it until 1989. He would also lead the Soviet commission established to investigate the Chernobyl disaster of 1986. From 1973 to 1984 he had held the role of Minister of Oil and Gas Industry Construction. Shcherbina was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (representing the Ukhta constituency at convocations 6 to 11). Photographed in Moscow, Russia, in February 1985.
