Caption: USGS scientist monitoring Kilauea eruption cracks, May 2018. Kilauea is a volcano on the main island of Hawaii. An eruptive episode began in May 2018, known as the 2018 lower Puna eruption. This USGS (United States Geological Survey) scientist, from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) is standing by cracks on Nohea Street in Leilani Estates. These cracks expanded significantly in the past day. Photographed on 17 May 2018.
