Caption: Sea urchin larva, darkfield light microscope. This is the free-swimming echinopluteus larva of the sea potato sea urchin (Echinocardium cordatum). It has a number of ciliated arms supported by calcareous rods. The cilia are used for locomotion and feeding. Magnification: x40 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
