Caption: Colon cancer, light micrograph. This specimen shows moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the colon. Adenocarcinoma is a cancer of the glandular lining that is found in many different organs, including the digestive tract. Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in North America and Western Europe. It is thought to be connected to a diet high in fat and low in fibre. This tumour is composed of columnar and goblet cells arranged in complex, anatomosing, and branching glands separated by desmoplastic stroma. There is variable amounts of mucin production. An inflammatory infiltrate is commonly present.
