The nanotube is 1. It was made by firing a laser at a mixture of carbon, nickel and cobalt to make spherical carbon fullerene molecules join together to form a tube. Besides the potential to miniaturise electronic components, the nanotube's small size gives it special properties that could be used to make entirely new devices. Magnification: x120,000 at 5x7cm size.
