It is an igneous rock, forming when molten volcanic lava solidifies. The texture of the rock can vary widely, depending upon the conditions under which it forms. This sample is from Traisen in the Nahe valley, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Magnification: x2.7 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
