Caption: James I (1566-1625), King of England and Ireland (reigned 1603-1625). He was also James VI, King of Scotland, from 1567, succeeding to the English throne after the death of Elizabeth I. The Union of the Crowns in 1603 unified the three realms under a single monarch. This is an engraving of a painting by Van Dyck. Artwork published in 1847.
