Ancient Greek historian and general Thucydides (c.460-400 BC) was the author of 'History of the Peloponnesian War', which recounts the 5th century BC war between Sparta and Athens. He is known as the 'father of scientific history'. Herodotus of Halicarnassus (484-425 BC) was a Greek historian from Iona who documented the Greco-Persian wars in 'The Histories'. He is often referred to as the 'father of history'. Artwork published in 1888.
