Caption: Mina woman from Brazil. 19th-century illustration of an example of a mixed race woman from Brazil with an Afro-Brazilian ethnicity from the Mina people of Togo in West Africa. From the 1500s to the 1860s, large numbers of Africans were brought to Brazil as slaves, with some later being freed. Artwork published in 1863.
