Caption: Australopithecine Lucy. Illustration and reconstruction of the Lucy specimen (AL 288-1) of Australopithecus afarensis. Lucy was found in the Afar region of Ethiopia between 1973 and 1977. She dates from around 3.3 million years ago, and is one of the earliest links in the human fossil record.
