Caption: Swine flu vaccine ampoules. Known as 'live monovalent flu vaccine', this is an experimental vaccine for human swine flu. Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses. The H1N1 strain is able to spread from human to human, and was declared a pandemic on 11 June 2009. This vaccine has been produced by NPO Mikrogen, Irkutsk. The vaccine in the ampoules contains killed or weakened disease-causing micro-organisms that when injected prepare the body's immune system against real infections. Photographed in September 2009.
