Caption: Cloud and atmosphere computer model. Computer visualisation of the Earth’s atmospheric temperature. This is an image from the Global Cloud-Resolving Model (GCRM), a program run on supercomputers that models the Earth’s atmosphere and climate. The Earth’s atmosphere is represented here both as a cut-out octant and a series of translucent ‘shells’. Colours represent temperature from hottest to coldest (red, yellow, green, magenta, blue). The GCRM project aims to produce a complete one-year simulation of the Earth’s atmospheric movements at 10-second intervals.
