Caption: Heart failure. Fluorescent deconvoluted micrograph of a section through a narrowed coronary arteriole in a patient with heart failure. The internal elastic lamina, the innermost layer of tissue in a blood vessel, is red. Smooth muscle cell nuclei are blue and actin, part of the cytoskeleton is green. Narrowed arterioles lead to a lack of oxygenated blood flowing to heart muscle, which in sever cases can lead to a heart attack (myocardial infarction).
