Caption: Water vapour distribution, computer model. Supercomputer simulation of the distribution of the Earth's water vapour, seen here as translucent white areas. At centre right is a typhoon off the coast of Japan. Atmospheric water vapour is invisible. It is a greenhouse gas that traps heat and reflects solar radiation. It provides up to 90 percent of the natural greenhouse effect that keeps the Earth warm.
