Caption: Treated tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) in a child, showing the cut frenulum under the tongue one week after surgery. Tongue-tie is a minor defect of the mouth in which the frenulum (the tissue attaching the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth) is too short and extends to the tip of the tongue. This causes limited movement of the tongue and can affect speech. See image 1 before surgery.
