Caption: Clonidine, 0.1 mg pills, (minimum dose; maximum dose is 2.4 mg). Central alpha-adrenergic agonist. In the USA sold as Catapres - also available as skin patches, (Catapres-TTS). Antihypertensive medicine effective in the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, (ADHD), Tourettes syndrome, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Used in the treatment of some types of neuropathic pain, opioid detoxification, sleep hyperhydrosis, and, off-label, to counter the side effects of stimulant medications such as methylphenidate or amphetamine. It is becoming a more accepted treatment for insomnia, as well as for relief of menopausal symptoms. May cause drowsiness, lightheadedness, dry mouth, dizziness, hypotension, and/or constipation. It may interfere with any of a long list of other medicines.
