Caption: Metoprolol, (Novo-Metoprol film-coated 50 mg pills), is a selective beta-1 receptor blocker used to treat several diseases of the cardiovascular system, especially hypertension. Marketed also as Lopressor or Lopresor, Seleken or Selokeen, Minax, Metrol, Betaloc, Neobloc, or Corvitol. The active substance: metoprolol succinate or metoprolol tartrate. It may also reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel numb and cold; smoking may worsen this effect. Unusual dreams, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, diarrhea, ataxia, trouble sleeping, and vision problems are transient side effects. Indications: Essential hypertension, coronary heart disease, secondary prevention after a myocardial infarction, treatment of heart failure, migraine prophylaxis, adjunct in treatment of hyperthyroidism.
