Caption: Verapamil 180 mg pills, (brand names: Isoptin, Verelan, Calan, Bosoptin), is an L-type calcium channel blocker used in the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmia, and most recently, headaches. Not to be used along with beta-blockers. Class 4 antiarrhythmic, more effective than digoxin in controlling ventricular rate. Approved by FDA in 1981. One of its purified isomers does not cause constipation whereas racemic Verapamil does. Used as a vasodilator during cryopreservation of blood vessels.
