Octyl ethanoate. Molecular model of octyl ethanoate, or octyl acetate, an ester compound found in oranges, where it is responsible for some of their taste and smell. For this reason, it is used in industry in perfumes and foods to impart a fruity aroma. Atoms are colour-coded: carbon (grey), oxygen (red) and hydrogen (white).
