Caption: Light micrograph of the chromosomes (karyotype, with G banding) of a male with trisomy 8 in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Humans have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. Trisomy 8 (also called Warkany Syndrome 2) is caused by three copies of chromosome 8 (red); a male has an X and Y sex chromosome (at lower right). Trisomy 8 is found in some cases of leukaemia, and has severe effects on the foetus.
