Caption: Light micrograph of the chromosomes (karyotype, with G banding) of a male patient with Philadelphia chromosome (translocation) in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Humans have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. Philadelphia chromosome is the result of a reciprocal translocation between chromosome 9 (red) and 22 (blue), derived from t(9;22Xq34; q11). Its presence is a sensitive test for this type of leukaemia.
