Caption: Light micrograph of the chromosomes (karyotype, with G banding) of a female patient with Philadelphia chromosome (translocation) in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Humans have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. Philadelphia chromosome is the result of a reciprocal translocation between chromosome 9 (arrow) and 22 (arrow). Its presence is a sensitive test for this type of leukaemia.
