Caption: Antifungal insect extract, molecular model. This molecule is being investigated as a candidate for a new fungicidal drug. It was extracted from a Chinese insect and was found to eradicate the fungus Candida albicans living in the human digestive tract. C. albicans is a yeast fungus that can cause opportunistic infections, such as thrush, in immunocompromised individuals. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (light blue), hydrogen (white), chlorine (green), nitrogen (dark blue) and oxygen (red).
