Caption: The Americas. Satellite image of the Earth seen at 12:00 (noon) GMT (UTC), centred on the Caribbean. Oceans are blue and land is green and brown. City lights (yellow) in dark areas show areas of dense population, particularly in North America (upper left). Most of the Arctic (top) is uninhabited and so has very few lights. Image obtained using data from Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 satellites.
