Caption: Early post-perihelion view of Halley's Comet at dawn, February 22, 1986, overlooking Imperial Valley from Laguna Mts., Southern California. Halley is the only naked-eye comet certain to return within a human lifetime (every 75 year or so). It derives its name from Edmond Halley, an eighteenth-century astronomer who computed its orbit. The comet has been observed by astronomers since at least 240 BC.
