Caption: Radish root. Light micrograph of a transverse section through the root of a radish (Raphanus sativa) plant. The outer layer is cork cambium (red). The next layer consists of phloem (dark blue) cells, which transport carbohydrates around the body. Beneath this is are cambium cells (yellow), then xylem (red) cells and parenchyma (light blue). Xylem cells transport water around the plant. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
