Caption: Macrophotograph of the surface of a slab of a man- made marble agglomerate, known commercially as Fior di Mare. The material is composed of small chips of natural marble embedded in a resin matrix (biege). Marble is a metamorphic rock composed mainly of calcite (calcium carbonate), but containing minute amounts of various impurities which give it a variety of colours.
