Caption: Scanning electron micrograph of a former for a nozzle mould, made from a polymer called PMMA. This material polymerises under the action of X- rays, allowing very small-scale structures to be made. This former is used to make nozzles for machines that spin artificial fibres. The former defines the shape of the hole in the finished nozzle. Magnification x325 at 6x7cm size.
