Caption: Aerial view of the NSLS (National Synchrotron Light Source) laboratory at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York. The NSLS uses synchrotron radiation emitted as a result of electrons being accelerated around two electron storage rings. The radiation is emitted in the form of ultraviolet light & X-rays, which are then used for a variety of experiments in fields as varied as solid state physics, materials science, chemistry, biology & medicine.
