Caption: View of the top of the 22-foot diameter, circular, stainless steel vacuum chamber which contains the 15- foot bubble chamber at Fermilab, Illinois. The photograph shows several of the "portholes" where cameras are placed to photograph events in the bubble chamber. (For details of the bubble chamber, see description to A113/046. ) A camera can be seen in place in the foremost porthole. It has a 37 mm lens with a 108 degree field of view and uses 70 mm black-and-white film of a special type. The events in the chamber are illuminated by circular xenon discharge tubes (not visible in the photograph). (June '84)
