Caption: Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the sting of the common honey bee (Apis mellifera). The tip of the sting is armed with backward sloping barbs which makes it difficult to remove once it is embedded in the skin. It consists of movable chitinous elements into which the poison flows between when it is injected. Magnification: x405 at 6x7cm size.
