The Slate islands are an archipelago consisting of two main islands, five minor islands and numerous islets located in northern Lake Superior (blue), Ontario, Canada. The islands were formed by a meteor impact that occurred approximately 450 million years ago, during the Ordovician period, forming a crater about 32 kilometres in diameter.
