A 'smart scalpel' has been developed by US scientists that can detect the presence of cancer cells as a surgeon cuts away at a tumour obscured by blood, tissue and fat. The device allows surgeons more accuracy whilst minimising the amount of healthy tissue that is removed during an operation.
