Aliens are occupying great swathes of the environment. These invaders are not from outer space, but from other parts of Earth and have been introduced by accident or on purpose to devastating effect. Animals such as the cane toad or grey squirrel and plants such as the Japanese knotweed or water-hyacinth have invaded new habitats, killing off the local wildlife and ruining the local economy.
