Damage to stored grains by weevils are estimated to run into the millions of Euros every year. As they are so small and reproduce so rapidly, once a storage unit is infested, it is very hard to locate the source and eradicate them. Scientists in France have developed a unique listening device. The acoustic 'drill' listens to the specific sounds of the grain weevil. This allows an infestation to be located earlier and more precisely for treatment, saving money, and the environment, from too much pesticide use.
