Tiny World Of Peidong Yang

At a thousand times narrower than a human hair and just a millimetre in length, these are the tiniest wires in the world. Known as nanowires, they promise a treasure trove of valuable new technologies from cheap solar panels to medical kits that diagnose illnesses from a single drop of blood. The wires are an exciting new branch of nanoscience engineering at scales of just a millionth of a millimetre. Their creator, Professor Peidong Yang, a chemist at the University of California, Berkeley, has quickly become a world leader in the field.
