These extraordinary new pictures of the human eye reveal the hidden beauty and intricacy of our visual organ. the scanning electron micrographs were taken in the laboratory of Professor Pietro Motta at the Institute of Human Anatomy of the University La Sapienza in Rome. They have been hand coloured by an artist. The illustrations are by John Bavosi, a medical illustrator resident in the UK. Together with the text by Dr Rob Stepney, these images help to explain the mysteries of our visual sense.
