Scientists at the Scottish Crop Research Institute have developed a radically new way of mass-producing plant biochemicals through the use of genetically engineered viruses which break into living plant cells and produce the desired protein every time they replicate. Such a technique will benefit both human and animal medicines as well as being a cheaper option to normal fermentation processes.
