Japanese scientists from Osaka University have taken a gene from a fluorescent jellyfish and implanted it into the embryos of mice to create the world's first glowing mammals. The scientists hope that the gene, which codes for a special protein called Green Fluorescence Protein, or GFP, could be used as a genetic tag in a wide variety of medical research.
