First model of Edison's Phonograph c1877 (c1880). In this model the recording cylinder was rotated by hand. The message to be recorded was spoken into the mouthpiece at A. This caused a stylus to vibrate and make an impression in the tin foil covering the cylinder, B. From Science for All by Robert Brown.
