Shooting at the Butt, 1496, (1843). Archers shoot at the parish butt for the prize, using the arbalest or cross-bow. From a manuscript containing a moral work, Imaginacion de vraye Noblesse, (1496). Illustration from Dresses and Decorations of the Middle Ages from the Seventh to the Seventeenth Centuries, by Henry Shaw, (London, 1843). Artist: Henry Shaw.
