Caption

Sabellaria reefs (Fan worms) on the lower shore are a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) habitat. These marine worms live in colonies where each constructs a tube made from coarse sand particles. The tube openings are oriented away from the sea to avoid the full force of the waves. The reefs are visible at low spring tides. Photographed at Croyde Bay in Devon, UK.
