Disrupted rock patterns. Mars Express satellite image of rock patterns that have been disrupted in the region between Iani Chaos and Ares Vallis. Both Iani Chaos (a circular depression) and Ares Vallis (a valley) appear to have been carved by a moving liquid, perhaps water. The rock disruptions here are one of the signs of fluid flowing across the area. Data for this image were obtained in October 2004 by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on ESA's Mars Express.
