Scleroderma of the foot. Close-up of the foot of a patient with an ulcer caused by scleroderma. Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes fibrosis (hardening) and vascular alterations. Sypmtoms include hard, smooth, ivory-coloured areas of skin that are immobile. It can affect both external organs (skin) and internal organs. The cause is unknown and there is therefore no specific treatment for it. Treatment is specific to the needs of the patient.
