Light micrograph of a section through the wall of the large intestine (colon), showing smooth muscle fibres (pink). Between them, in the collagen (red), are purple cells, the Auerbach's plexus (or myenteric plexus); the cells more clearly violet with a round nucleus and nucleolus are the ganglion nerve cells (neurons).
