Mosquito adult emerging from its pupa. The life cycle of a mosquito starts with the egg, which hatches into a larva underwater. After several instar stages, the pupa stage forms. After a few days, the pupa rises to the surface of the water, the dorsal surface splits, and the adult mosquito emerges into the air. As seen here, the adult form has legs and wings.
