This commercially important species of oceanic squid, Todarodes cf pacificus, was trawled between 200 meters depth and the surface by a commercial fishing trawler in the Sea of Japan. Sperm packets can be seen on the skin's surface. These packets are placed into the skin of the female by males. This individual was photographed in the Sea of Japan (2007).
