Each wavelength has a different angle of refraction. White light from the Sun is thus dispersed by each raindrop into beams of coloured light that cover the entire visible spectrum, from red to violet. We actually see only one colour per raindrop, but the huge number of tiny prisms forms a range of colours in our perception: a rainbow.
